Engaged Researcher - Animate your research
Beginners

Fri 10 May 2024

Description

This is an in-person event.

This training will introduce you to the world of visual communication. We will look at visualising data versus visualising abstract concepts and think about appropriateness! How can you simplify a huge body of research into something that is visually enticing to people outside of your field? In this training you will learn how to create visual metaphors that illustrate your research as well as the basics of frame by frame and stop motion animation so that you may turn these illustrations into short animated gifs.

Target audience
  • PhD students
  • Post-docs
  • Researchers
  • Public Engagement Professionals

Objectives

You will think about your audience and ethics. Consider accessibility and language and how to represent diversity within image making. The aim of this training is to enable participants to create an illustration or an animated gif which communicates their research in a visual way - reaching out to wider audiences, without over simplifying! You should aim to end this session having produced a 8 -10 second animated clip, either a stop motion using materials of your choice or hand drawn on photoshop.

Format

Presentations, demonstrations and practicals
