Description

Blended teaching using online technologies will enrich and modernise your course delivery, but it requires technical mastery of new applications such as Microsoft Teams. This fast-track online instructor-led course will build your knowledge of Teams, and give you an opportunity to explore and to use it, so that you can decide which aspects will work for you.

You will learn, or gain an insight, into:

  • Requesting and structuring a team for a new student cohort
  • Arranging meetings with your students
  • Increasing student collaboration using Chat and Posts
  • Sharing your screen and presenting PowerPoint
  • Working on documents in real time with others
  • Creating breakout rooms for groupwork
  • Creating quizzes and polls
  • Using the Whiteboard
  • Use OneNote notebooks
  • Uploading and marking assignments
  • Integrating specialist applications with Teams (e.g. LaTex or linking to Moodle)

If you would like to practice teaching online in a small group who will provide constructive feedback, please register your interest on the separate workshop.

If you book:

  • You must have Teams installed on your local computer to participate, how to install the Microsoft Teams app.
  • You will need a webcam and a mic.
  • Important: The instructor cannot troubleshoot access to Microsoft Teams on the day of the course. If you are in an institution that is managing their own Teams tenancy (CAMENT, JBS, medschl and some of the colleges) then you may not have access to the files or calendar used in the course. Please contact the instructor in advance to discuss this.
  • If you use Hermes for your email you will not be able to create a meeting or Breakout Rooms.
  • Add the event to your calendar by following the link in your booking confirmation email and click Add to Calendar.
Target audience
  • This event is a pilot run for evaluation purposes.
  • All current Cambridge University members (departments and colleges, staff and students) who teach.

Prerequisites
  • A basic familiarity with Teams is advised but not essential. If you are completely new to Teams consider viewing the online course MS Teams for Education.

Format

Instructor-led workshop.

System requirements
  • Installed Microsoft Teams app
  • It's advisable to make a test call in advance of the session
  • A link to the online meeting will be sent in your booking confirmation email and event reminders
  • The course will start promptly at the time shown below but will be open up to 30 minutes beforehand should you wish to check your audio and visual setup.
  • Your computer set up may be different to others on the course and there are small variations when using different operating systems. It is helpful to keep the instructor informed of the system that you are using.
