Description

This workshop session will bring together researchers from across the University to explore approaches to supporting more reproducible research. The workshop will take an interdisciplinary approach, seeking to tackle the obstacles to reproducibility in quantitative and qualitive research and explore how different disciplines can learn from each other's experiences. The Workshop will be offered by members of the University's Reproducibility Working Group and outcomes from discussions will help shape proposals for future University approaches to supporting reproducible research.

Speakers:

Dr Florian Markowetz: Florian Markowetz is a Senior Group Leader at the Cancer Research UK Cambridge Institute. He is a Royal Society Wolfson Research Merit Award holder and received a CRUK Future Leader in Cancer Research prize. He holds degrees in Mathematics (Dipl. math.) and Philosophy (M.A.) from the University of Heidelberg and a Dr. rer. nat. (PhD equivalent) in Computational Biology from Free University Berlin, for which he was awarded an Otto-Hahn Medal by the Max Planck Society. His group at the CRUK Cambridge Institute combines computational work on cancer evolution and image analysis of the tumour tissue with experimental work on understanding key cancer mechanisms like the estrogen receptor.

Professor Alexander Bird Alexander is the Bertrand Russell Professor of Philosophy at Cambridge, and a fellow of St John's College. Prior to coming to Cambridge Alexander was the Peter Sowerby Professor of Philosophy and Medicine at King's College London. His research includes the analysis of the Replication Crisis in psychology and clinical medicine. And he was active in launching the the UK Reproducibility Network and in the UKRN’s local network at King’s College London.

Dr Maria Tsapali Maria is an Affiliated Lecturer in Psychology and Education based at the Faculty of Education at the University of Cambridge. Maria’s research interests include designing learning environments to promote conceptual and procedural understanding of science concepts, phenomena and skills and utilising cognitive science and neuroscience to improve educational practice, especially in the primary school years. She is the Deputy Director of INSTRUCT group, which is a multi-disciplinary research laboratory, incorporating cognitive developmental science with various educational disciplines, including science, mathematics, and literacy.
