Online: Fire Safety Training Self-taught Bookable

To raise fire safety awareness for all members of the University and assist fire safety managers to comply with current fire safety legislation.

Please note: This online training course now has a different online host. The content is as before, however there are some differences in how you access the course and you will have to register to access the new ClickHSE Portal for the first time. You will require access to a computer, tablet or mobile phone which has the ability to connect to the internet and open a webpage.

If you have already completed and passed the online fire training this academic year the information will only be recorded once on the University Training Booking System (UTBS).

Online: GM Risk Assessment (v2) Self-taught Bookable

An on-demand online training course that explains what to consider when assessing the risk of work with genetically modified organisms (GMOs), requirements for notification to the HSE and how to assign the appropriate activity class and containment level for your work.

By the end of the course you will be able to:

  • Describe which regulations govern the University’s work on GMOs.
  • Follow the appropriate approval processes for proposed GM work.
  • Propose suitable steps to reduce or control the hazards of GM work.
  • Complete a GM risk assessment form using appropriate sources for information.

This module will take approximately 90 minutes to complete.

At the end you will be required to test your knowledge by completing the quiz (allow another 30 min for this).

This online course provides Heads of Departments with the appropriate health and safety knowledge to suitably manage their department.

This online course is intended to provide some basic information about health and safety in the University and help you to understand your responsibility to: Keep yourself safe, look out for the safety of others, and co-operate with your department and the University.

This year’s Postgraduate Safety Training includes a mandatory Introduction session for all students (unless formally excused by their Department) plus sessions on topics chosen according to the discipline and nature of your research activities. Even if your Department has excused you from attendance you are strongly encouraged to listen to at least the PG Health and Safety Training Introduction Session.

Online training in Using Compressed Cylinder Gases Safely.

Once you have booked a provisional place on this course an access code and Learner Guidance and Support document will be emailed to you within a few days to get you started.

Hydrofluoric Acid (HF) is one of the most toxic and potentially dangerous substances used in the University. All users of HF should be fully aware of and have a good understanding of the nature of HF. They should know how best to control HF, avoid accidental exposure and understand how to deal with accidental exposure to HF. All users of HF are strongly advised to complete this online course. This course is also useful for First Aiders in Departments where HF is used.

There is a quiz which users must pass to pass the course.
