All containment laboratory users and their supervisors should know how to use MSCs effectively, what the standards are for the different levels of containment, and how the facilities are managed. This course will help both users and managers understand their responsibilities in creating a safe working area and provide both theory and practical knowledge on the safe and effective use of tissue culture (Class II) cabinets. |
Itamar Shatz - Methods Fellow CDH This course will introduce participants to key concepts in statistical analyses, including statistical significance, effect sizes, and linear models. The goal is to give participants the basic tools that they need in order to understand the use of statistical methods by others and to use these methods effectively in their own research. We will focus on an intuitive and practical understanding of statistical analyses, rather than on the mathematical details underlying them. As such, the course will be accessible for those without a quantitative background, although it will help to have knowledge of basic descriptive statistics (e.g., mean and standard deviation). The course will cover (approximately) the following topics:

Are you new to teaching online? It is natural to feel apprehensive of this mode of delivery, virtual training has an additional skill set to those in a classroom based situation, and though your existing training skills remain essential, there is another layer of technical expertise to master. This online virtual workshop will help build your confidence delivering training sessions and give you an opportunity to practice and to receive feedback from other trainers. The emphasis of the course is not about the method and practice of teaching as an academic subject or theoretical concept, this is a hands-on workshop where you can practice in a safe environment. Before the workshop session, you must create an activity or convert one of your existing courses to an online version, and be prepared to present a 15-20 minute session. You will need to demonstrate that you have thought through and manged the pre-course bookings, communications and activities as well as competence using an online delivery tool. The workshop will be friendly and supportive with a maximum of three participants. You must have Teams installed on your computer to participate.

Before undertaking any piece of primary research it’s important to be aware of as much of the existing literature as possible. A systematic literature review can also be a research end in itself. And it’s not something to be taken lightly. But how can you be sure you’re being as rigorous as necessary? How can you manage the references you find, document the process, and also know when to stop searching? This session assumes attendees have already had prior introductory training in literature searching. It is a prerequisite that you have attended either Introduction to Literature Searching (if you are a University of Cambridge staff member or student) or Getting the Best Results - Improving Your Database Searching (if you are an NHS staff member). Exceptions will be made if you received similar training from another department or university - please contact us if you have any questions about prerequisites. UPDATE: Please note that this session is taking place remotely, not in the Medical Library as previously advertised. Please do not go to the Medical Library training room. You will be contacted by the training team with information about how to join the session remotely. Please note: this session may be recorded. By signing up for the session, you register your consent for recording to take place. Please email librarytraining@medschl.cam.ac.uk if you have any questions about this. |
