Uncertain and unpredictable situations induce a stress response in people. The good news is that there are mechanisms to manage that stress and adapt to the impact of these unpredictable times because you still need to progress your research, secure future funding, and make decisions on your research and career direction. In this hour discussion we will explore mechanisms to manage our natural stress response to uncertainty; how to implement those mechanisms and better adapt. We will discuss two key resilience frameworks that will provide you with approaches to make incremental changes to attitude and action to help be more resilient to the unpredictable nature of our times. Caroline Broad has been a skills trainer for career researchers for over ten years. She delivers 'Resilience for researchers' workshops, runs a local Happy cafe and is accredited as a Resilience Leadership Consultant. |

Join us to find out how you can make sense of the level of uncertainty you are faced with in your projects in research and beyond. The term VUCA has been used to describe an uncertain world and the level of change we are experiencing in our work and broader life. The environmental changes we have all experienced recently has highlighted the importance of understanding our contextual landscape and mitigate negative impact on our research. We will cover: - Defining our uncertain world using VUCA? We will explore the meaning of volatility, uncertainty, complexity and ambiguity within the context of research. - How can we respond to an uncertain world: We will identify specific solutions which can help us navigate our uncertain and VUCA world, help us mitigate negative impacts on our research and inspire us to seize new opportunities. - The art of developing a VUCA-proof mindset: We will explore three specific approaches and solutions which can help us become more resilient, tackle change in a positive manner and maximise our research impact. The masterclass, designed and presented by Natacha Wilson from Cambridge Insights will include a mix of evidence- based frameworks and best practice. |
