09:00	Shipping Biological Materials (IATA) Course Finished 09:00 - 16:30 Greenwich House, Heidelberg Room This is a one-day specialised CAA approved training course aimed at those departments shipping biological materials by air (IATA). It will use the 2015 IATA Regulations and will cover the full classification, packaging, labelling and documentation required to ship the following goods: Infectious Substances (Category A) Biological substances (Category B) (e.g. samples, vaccines, bloods, etc) Exempted goods – (e.g. cell lines, DNA) Genetically Modified Organisms It will also cover the requirements for the supplementary materials encountered, such as dry-ice, dry-shippers and samples that are in small amounts of potentially flammable, or toxic, preservative fluids. The course will be examined, and successful candidates will receive a training certificate valid for two years, restricted only to the materials described above. For completeness, transport by road and rail etc will also be covered.
09:30	Working at Height: Basic Ladder Safety Finished 09:30 - 10:30 Greenwich House, Cairo Room Falls from ladders and other height access devices continue to cause injuries to people at work in the University. The new Work at Height Regulations (April 2005) have implications for the University because the emphasis has changed to any fall from any height. Anyone who uses ladders or who supervises work with ladders should attend this session.
	Web Authoring: HTML - For Beginners (Level 1) CANCELLED 09:30 - 13:00 University Information Services, Roger Needham Building, Ely Training Room 1 This is a practical-based course for people new to writing Web pages. Only the basics of HTML (hypertext mark-up language) will be covered, but there are other courses for those wishing to extend their knowledge. The course teaches how to write HTML from scratch using a basic Text Editor and focuses on content and structure as opposed to style. By the end of the course participants will have created three personal linked web pages and had the opportunity to publish these using DS-Web.
	Python 3: Introduction for Absolute Beginners (3 of 4) Finished 09:30 - 13:00 Titan Teaching Room 2, New Museums Site This course is part of the Scientific Computing series. This course is aimed at those new to programming and provides an introduction to programming using Python, focussing on scientific programming. This course is probably unsuitable for those with programming experience, even if it is just in shell scripting or Matlab-like programs. By the end of this course, attendees should be able to write simple Python programs and to understand more complex Python programs written by others. As this course is part of the Scientific Computing series, the examples chosen are of most relevance to scientific programming.

	AO1 Molecular Orbitals in Organic Chemistry (2 of 4) Finished 12:00 - 13:00 Unilever Lecture Theatre AO1 is a 3 part series, which runs over the course of three years in rotation and sees Molecular Orbitals in Organic Chemistry (the first part) being given this year. These lectures do not need to be taken in order. The series is as follows: AO1 Part 1. Molecular Orbitals in Organic Chemistry (4L, current) These lectures introduce molecular orbitals – the fundamental description of electron distribution that chemists use to explain chemical bonding and chemical reactivity. There is no mathematics, only the basic physics. Topics include s-bonding, p-conjugation using the Hückel picture, hard and soft acids and bases, and reactivity using, with some circumspection, frontier orbital theory and the Salem-Klopman equation. AO1 Part 2. Stereospecific Reactions in Organic Synthesis (4L, 2018) These lectures describe how the sense and degree of stereospecificity in several fundamental chemical reactions – substitution, elimination and addition – and the sense and degree of stereoselectivity in others – nucleophilic and electrophilic attack on double bonds with diastereotopic surfaces – can be explained by considering the molecular orbitals involved. AO1 Part 3. Pericyclic Reactions (4L, 2019) These lectures continue the subject of stereospecificity, which is seen in its most powerful form in pericyclic reactions. The four classes of pericyclic reaction are described, and their allowedness and stereochemistry explained. The Woodward-Hoffmann rule is illustrated with the most telling examples.

14:30	Principal Investigators, Do You Know How to Fulfil Your Health and Safety Responsibilities? Finished 14:30 - 15:30 Greenwich House, Kyoto Room Principal Investigators, research group heads and supervisors have duties and responsibilities both in law and under University Policy where the health and safety of group members (and others that may be influenced by their research activities) are concerned. All PIs, group heads and supervisors are encouraged to attend this course which will quickly inform you of what you must do to comply with the law, keep you staff and students safe and reduce the possibility of litigation, thus reducing the overall risk to the University.
	Risk Management (Seminar) Finished 14:30 - 17:00 Greenwich House, Edmonton Room The University must ensure that there are appropriate arrangements in place to promote effective risk management; this is a condition of grant under the terms of the Financial Memorandum between the HEFCE and the Higher Education Institutions it funds. This course will explore what risk management is and why it is necessary, and the particular benefits that can be derived from effective risk management. A key focus of the course will be to review the University’s system for risk management and to explore how this system can be implemented at the local level of Faculties and Departments.

15:00	Getting Started in COGNOS Finished 15:00 - 16:30 Finance Division, Greenwich House, Ferrara Room (IT Training Room) COGNOS is a reporting tool that utilises data from CUFS to provide users with additional reports and options. This master class is designed to get existing CUFS users going with the reporting tool. It covers everything from running a report successfully as well as a number of useful tips and shortcuts. Note: What it does not do is go through in detail the outputs of each individual report. Less experienced users of the Grants and/or General Ledger modules in CUFS are recommended to attend instead one of the following courses: Grants Part 2 COGNOS Reporting General Ledger Reporting These two courses not only cover the mechanics of running the reports but also more advice on how to interpret and use the information as well as discussion about when to use which report.

One of the aims of the advanced level courses is also presentation skills as the courses aim to cater for the academic needs (i.e. research, conferences) of the students.
