This is Part 1 of 4 courses that provide you the opportunity to get a hands on and in-depth insight into Teams. If you prefer a quick overview of Teams then consider joining the Fast Track course instead. Please note that the course is taught using Microsoft Teams and you must have Teams installed on your computer to participate.

You will:

  • Understand Teams, Channels and an overview of what is possible in the application
  • Chat in a group or one-to-one
  • Collaborate with colleagues. In Teams you can access, share, and edit Word docs, PowerPoint, and Excel files in real time

If you book:

  • Add the event to your calendar by following the link in your booking confirmation email and click Add to Calendar.
  • Install the Microsoft Teams app. (It is possible to join using Edge or Chrome but there is less functionality when using a browser).
  • Important: The instructor cannot troubleshoot access on the day of the course. If you are in an institution that is managing their own Teams tenancy (CAMENT, JBS, medschl and some of the colleges) then you may not have access to the files or calendar used in the course.   • Know how to add documents and apps in a tab and when you might benefit from using them.
  • Practice using applications that you need to work with i.e. Connectors, OneNote, Wiki, Planner, Forms and Lists.

Want to practice giving Teams Live Events? Then join us in this informal introductory session to manage and deliver a webinar. The course is not about presentation skills, it is to master the mechanics of managing the smooth transition between different presenters and content. The maximum number of participants for this course is limited to 2.

You must have the following items installed or available on your computer to participate:

1. The Teams desktop app installed on your computer.
2. The Teams Calendar available on the Teams interface. (You must be using Microsoft Exchange Online for your email to enable the Teams Calendar). Details on how to migrate from Hermes to Exchange can be found here.
3. The button on the Teams Calendar interface necessary to create a Teams Live Event. (To enable the button on your system you need to request the ability to create Live Events via the Self Service portal). Note! this can take up to 48 hours for the change to come into effect.

New to online collaboration? This course aims to take the mystery out of managing your files online, syncing these to your computer and introduces a few useful functions that you may not have discovered.

  • Use the assistive technologies within Teams
  • Gain a few tips to speed your work

Falcon-on-Drupal: Update and Q&A session new Finished 14:00 - 15:00 Online
  • A presentation and Q&A session to discuss the development of Falcon-on-Drupal – a new version of the Falcon website content management system (CMS) service based on the Drupal platform – and the migration of sites to the new service.
  • The session will be led by Nick Mattin, Head of Service Development at UIS. We’ll be joined by Barney Brown, Head of Digital Communications in the OEAC, who will be able to explain how the migration sits in the context of the University’s Digital Presence Programme.
  • Attendees will have the opportunity to ask questions about the development, service features and how the migration may affect their sites.
