Target audience

Postdocs Researchers Postgraduates

Objectives

You'll learn about...

  • the purpose of peer review and the different forms peer review can take
  • your role as reviewer
  • the best practices for accepting a peer review invitation, evaluating a manuscript, and writing critical feedback
  • how to create opportunities for professional development as a reviewer
Presenter

The session will be delivered by Dr Beatrice Gini, Training Coordinator at the Office of Scholarly Communication and an editor from PLOS. Bea has worked in secondary education and as a research consultant with the Zoological Society of London. At the OSC she supports researchers and PhD students who want to learn more about publishing, Open Research and Research Data Management.

For this session, Bea will be joined by Joseph Donlan, an Associate Editor for the Physical Sciences at PLOS ONE. Prior to joining the editorial team at PLOS, Joe completed BA and MSci degrees in Natural Sciences at Cambridge and a PhD in Physical and Theoretical Chemistry from Oxford. During his PhD, Joe became interested in the world of scientific publishing, and in particular in how the process of publishing scientific research could be improved for the benefit of researchers and the wider public.
