Mindfulness Walk at Lucy Cavendish & St Edmund's Colleges new Finished 09:30 - 11:30 Lucy Cavendish College

Start 9:30am at Lucy Cavendish with tea and coffee available to purchase in the café as well as there being complimentary water & fruit. Walk around the gardens of Lucy Cavendish, then up around the Hill, finishing up in the gardens of St Edmund’s at around 11:30am.

Senior Tutors of Lucy Cavendish (Dr Jane Greatorex) and St Edmunds (Dr Judith Bunbury) and the Reverend Dr Janet Bunker will be leading the walk. Janet will be pointing out art and architectural points of interest during the walk up the “Hill”.

Meeting point is at the Porters Lodge

Basic Bike Maintenance & Puncture Repair new Finished 11:00 - 12:00 Institute of Continuing Education, Madingley Hall

To be held in the Madingley Hall gardens.

Come along and spend an hour learning the basic bike maintenance essentials to keep you on the road if the worst happens whilst out on a ride. Session will include wheel removal, innertube repair / replacement and wheel refitting. Handouts will be available detailing the basic minimum kit to carry with you on your bike when out and about.

There will also be a basic touch on brake / gear adjustment time allowing. Wheels and bikes with varied running gear will be available on site but feel free to bring along your own bike and tools so that you can practice on the machine you’ll need to work on in your own time. No equipment / spares or maintenance will be available to take away on the day and the session is not designed to give your bike a full service while you wait.

Join a counsellor from the University Staff Counselling Service to unwind during your busy day – it may well make the rest of your day more relaxed and productive.

In this 1 hour session:

  • Learn how the quality of our relationships is the biggest influencing factor on physical and mental wellbeing and high performing teams - latest research
  • A Deep Listening technique, proven by science, to help us understand and communicate meaning more effectively
  • Practice a mini mindfulness technique to help you cope and recover with stressful thoughts - improve relationship with ourselves
  • Learn how relationships are impacted by phone/ distraction and simple steps to navigate this challenge
  • Plan to take one action in the next 24 hours to strengthen a relationship important to you

Founded in 1441 by Henry 6th, King's College has Historic landscapes and Gardens rich in heritage and beauty, spend a summer's afternoon exploring them with Senior Horticulturist Steven Coghill.

Hosted by the Pro-Vice-Chancellor for Institutional and International Relations, Professor Eilis Ferran, this session will provide an overview of the University's Senior Academic Promotions procedure, highlight the main changes to the process, provide an overview of the SAP CV Scheme and address some of the common misconceptions surrounding SAP.

We particularly encourage women and staff identifying as Black, Asian and Minority Ethnic (BAME) to attend as they are currently under-represented at senior academic levels.

Cycle Maintenance Workshop new Finished 17:00 - 19:00 Greenwich House, grounds

Come and learn what can be achieved with a minimalist toolkit and the application of basic bike repair skills. The course will be split into two halves.

The first half will focus on: •How to carry out an 'M' check on your bike •Wheel removal and replacement •Fixing punctures

The second half will focus on: •Bespoke requests - your chance to ask the trainer specific questions which can include brake adjustment, gear adjustment, bike set up, wheel trimming etc.

This hour-long lunchtime seminar includes general cycling advice and illustrations of some of the cycling infrastructure in and around Cambridge.

Included are a number of short videos, examples of how to lock your bike, bike lights, and a very powerful demonstration of the benefit of wearing a properly fitted cycle helmet.

Hands Up – Who's Looking After Their Hands at Work? new CANCELLED 12:45 - 13:45 Department of Physics, 213 Bragg Commitee Room

This session is aimed at staff / students whose role involves frequent hand washing or wearing of gloves as part of their personal protection equipment (PPE) and may be more suitable to those working in clinic and laboratory areas who are at greater risk of work-related dermatitis and /eczema.

The session will discuss the different types of dermatitis, provide advice on correct handwashing technique and use of gloves, as well as steps to avoid problems from developing and the action to take in the event that problems occur.

There will be an opportunity to evaluate hand washing techniques and assess skin hydration to show how this can impact upon the management of hand care.
