If you have recently started peer reviewing, or are ready to get involved, this is an unmissable chance to pick up tips and best practices from PLOS, publishers of the world's largest multi-disciplinary peer-reviewed journal.
The Office of Scholarly Communication invites you to join PLOS for an essential introduction to Peer Review.
You'll learn...
- the 3 questions you should always ask yourself when you're asked to do a review
- how to get ready to review and be recognized for your work
- how to read a manuscript with peer review in mind
- how to write the feedback you wish you'd received.
Stay on after the workshop to chat to PLOS staff and editors and enjoy light refreshments.

All attendees are required to complete a pre-workshop activity requiring around 1 hour's work. The instructions for the activity will be emailed to you two weeks before the event.
You will be asked to read an article or preprint in your area of expertise and complete a worksheet which provides guidance for taking reviewer notes. This worksheet will be used in the workshop as you write a peer review, so please bring your notes along.

At the conclusion of the session, you will
- understand the purpose of peer review and identify the different forms peer review can take
- understand the role of the reviewer
- understand and apply best practices for accepting a peer review invitation, evaluating a manuscript, and writing critical feedback
- identify opportunities for professional development as a reviewer
- understand how peer review works at PLOS.
