Description

We will look at the rules for creating LC geographical subject heading strings, the subject headings for biography and collections of correspondence, and pattern headings.

Target audience

For those who would like to know more about how LC subject headings work, especially the use of geographic and pattern headings. No idea what a pattern heading is? Come and find out!

Prerequisites

Attendees must have a basic knowledge and familiarity with MARC21 and RDA/AACR2. This is a sequel to the course Introduction to the theory and structure of Library of Congress Subject Headings so some experience of adding LC subject headings will be assumed.

Objectives

  • Understand how pattern headings work and practice using them
  • Practice using tools for subject analysis
