09:00	Finance Division Taster Sessions - Treasury & Investments (Investments) POSTPONED 09:00 - 12:00 Finance Division, At Participant's Desk To provide an opportunity for someone from elsewhere in Fin Division to spend half a day in the Treasury & Investments Team to get an overview and appreciation of what they do. The Treasury & Investments team are offering two sessions, one on Treasury and one on Investments. Ideally the Treasury session should be attended before this one (Investments) however this is not a pre-requisite.
09:15	Communication Skills Introduction: "Are you receiving me?" CANCELLED 09:15 - 15:30 Greenwich House, Edmonton Room Increase your confidence and skills in one-to-one communication with this highly participative course. Effective communication starts in your head and it isn’t just about the words you say. Your tone of voice, facial expression and body language all communicate a message. This course will help you get your message across more clearly. You will also have the opportunity to practise communication skills on a one-to-one basis.
09:30	Lifting and Manual Handling POSTPONED 09:30 - 11:00 Greenwich House, Jaffna Room This awareness training is for all staff who are regularly involved in moving and carrying loads and setting up equipment etc. The course involves theory, video and a practical demonstration by the instructor. Also available to deliver in departments and colleges where a more bespoke course maybe useful. See Unscheduled events for more details.
	Introduction to Lean in HE: Making Improvements in the Workplace CANCELLED 09:30 - 16:30 Greenwich House, Heidelberg Room The course is designed to give participants an overview of Lean thinking as applied within Higher Education, and an explanation of some of the basic tools used to make improvements to processes. This session will focus on how to break down a problem and work towards a justifiable and confident decision to achieve the best outcome you can.
10:00	Writing Your First Year Report (Physical Sciences & Technology) POSTPONED 10:00 - 12:30 Student Services Centre, Exams Hall, Room AG03d It’s that time of year: the report is looming on the horizon and the reality of writing is here! Aimed at first-year PhD students, with little or no academic writing experience. This course focuses on helping you develop good writing habits and become a more efficient writer. It is designed to get you thinking and to get working effectively on your end-of-first-year report / Certificate of Postgraduate Studies. Please note, this is a beginners course, so if you already have experience in writing for academic purposes, this course might not be for you. 13:00	Know Moore About: Responsible Metrics Finished 13:00 - 14:00 Centre for Mathematical Sciences, Betty and Gordon Moore Library, Pink Study Room Metrics have long been used as an indicator of academic success and as a way to make key decisions. As the measurement of impact becomes increasingly important within academia there has been something of a backlash against trusting purely quantitative methods of assessment. The Responsible Metrics movement aims to ensure that metrics are used fairly alongside other measures to gather a true assessment of impact. This session will discuss what the Responsible Metrics movement is, why it was developed, its importance and how research staff can get involved. Update Due to the outbreak of COVID-19 and concerns around both staff and student safety the Moore Library has taken the decision to move all of its training sessions online for the foreseeable future. Please do not go to the Moore Library at your scheduled session time as this will no longer be running. A recorded version of this training session will be uploaded on the date of the session. If you are interested in receiving an email notifying you of this, please sign up for the session. We will then circulate the links to the resources, as well as linking them here. As always, the Moore Research Support team will be available to answer any questions or offer any support that you may need at this time. 09:30	Administrator Development Programme (6 of 6) Finished 09:30 - 19:00 N/A - online webinar This development programme for generalist and specialist administrators draws on the expertise of senior figures in the University and provides up to date information on the various strands and issues of University strategy and governance. It includes development of some key skills and a project activity, and offers a valuable opportunity to network with administrators from the UAS and other departments and institutions. Selection for this programme is via nomination by School Secretaries, Heads of Division or Heads of Non-School Institutions. Nominees will need to demonstrate the benefit of participating, both for themselves and their institution. Please speak to your line manager and/or appropriate nominator if you would like to be considered. Note for 2020/21: nominations are paused until Michaelmas term. Staff will take part in some fun activities to learn more about other departments within the Cambridge University Libraries, have a presentation from a member of the Leadership Team about the wider workings of the University and have time to check their HR24 Induction Checklists and meet other new starters. Designed to be more informal, this workshop is a great opportunity to meet other staff, make contacts and ask any questions that you may have come across in your first month of employment.
