EMBL-EBI: Introduction to EMBL-EBI resources

Description

This event provides an introduction to the EMBL-European Bioinformatics Institute (EMBL-EBI) resources. During the workshop we will introduce ways to navigate the EMBL-EBI website, search EMBL-EBI database resources and explore our bioinformatics tools, including sequence searching and alignment tools. It will also highlight additional resources such as Train Online.

Also note: If you wish to learn any specific information about particular EMBL-EBI resources, then we will be running a series of separate short introductions later in the year, which will be bookable separately (see Related Courses below).

Target audience
  • The workshop is aimed at PhD, post-doctoral researchers and principle investigators working in wet-lab biology. Participants who are looking for a basic introduction to the bioinformatics resources offered by the EMBL-EBI and want to know more about accessing biological data and tools.
  • Graduate students, Postdocs and Staff members from the University of Cambridge, Affiliated Institutions and other external Institutions or individuals

Aims

To gain an overview of the service offered at the EMBL-EBI, possibly with a view to attending some of the more targeted sessions that will follow (see Related Courses, below).

After this course you should be able to:

  • Navigate the EMBL-EBI website to locate tools, databases and resources of internet
  • Utilize EMBL-EBI Search to locate relevant data and information
  • Follow hyperlinks through various resources to access additional information
  • Relate examples and use cases back to participant’s own research
  • Know how to contact the EMBL-EBI Helpdesk and access Train Online materials
