IT Community and UIS Mentoring Scheme: Mentees' Coffee Morning new Finished 09:30 - 11:00 University Information Services, Roger Needham Building, Huntingdon Room

An informal guidance session for members of the IT Community and UIS Mentoring Scheme. The session will provide the opportunity to meet with other mentees enrolled on the scheme. You’ll be able to talk openly as a group and share any successes or challenges while being a mentee. Please think of examples before coming along so we can discuss in the session and this will hopefully encourage confidence to help you gain the most out of your mentoring relationship and the scheme.

An informal guidance session for anyone thinking about joining the IT Community and UIS Mentoring Scheme. Professional Development Manager, Rinku Raina will give a brief overview about what you can expect from joining the scheme. You'll have the chance to ask informal questions and hear from previous members of the scheme.

Ian Leslie will present our annual view of the coming year in University IT, touching on pandemic-related issues, recent UIS critical activities and evolving priorities and portfolios. You'll have an opportunity to post questions during the live event.

A TechLink Community online event providing an overview of key aspects of cloud computing, such as:

  • Infrastructure & Security in the cloud
  • Use cases & Data Management (e.g. Website Hosting, Back Up, Data Safe Haven)
  • Hybrid Cloud options (e.g. Disaster Recovery, Business Continuity, resilience)
  • Pricing and Cost Control models

There will be opportunities for Q&A, and follow up discussions.

A TechLink Community online event for University and affiliated IT professionals.

A TechLink Community online event providing an overview of key aspects of cloud computing, such as:

  • A presentation and discussion-style session introducing how IT works in the University of Cambridge. Covering what is expected of an IT professional working within a college, department or University institution, this session will explain what resources are available for them, including IT-specific material.
  • This induction is useful for any new (or relatively new) IT staff, or as a refresher for those who may have missed the opportunity to attend at the start of their IT role within the University.
  • The session will provide the opportunity to network with IT professionals across the University, and to meet UIS staff and Relationship Managers who are key contacts for supporting IT staff.

  • An invitation to try out an AI LLM (Large Language Model) proof-of-concept search system
  • UIS worked with an AI company to apply Retrieval-Augmented Generation to the University web presence
  • A limited pilot (public UIS, UAS pages) has made interesting discoveries about University material
  • We aim to broaden the pilot to departmental and collegiate public web pages
  • We will be seeking volunteer institutions to permit access to their public sites
  • We will be opening the POC (proof-of-concept) to additional testing
